Hi whimsical word lovers! My name is Liz, and I am an educator currently residing in Vermont. My background is in literacy and technology integration. I spent 7 years teaching upper elementary school, and now I am in my 4th year in the Ed Tech space – my roles here have ranged from Professional Development Trainer, Instructional Coach and now National Curriculum Consultant.
❤️ All in all, I support educators and help provide the tools they need to make a positive impact on their students lives.
😱 The history behind Vocabulicious is simple! 4 years into teaching 4th/5th grade I realized I wasn’t teaching vocabulary. Not even a little bit. YIKES! You know why? Because as a student myself, I was never taught challenging words in a digestable way. So, to be honest the whole concept scared me.
Instead of running the other direction, I did what every great educator does. I dove head first into learning everything there is to know about how to choose meaningful words to teach our kiddos, and how to make sure the words we’re teaching actually STICK.
If that wasn’t enough, I even chose to write my Master’s Thesis project on this topic. Talk about going from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye.
Through all of my research and trial and error, I came to the conclusion that teaching vocabulary is HARD, but not impossible. There are ways you can easily incorporate word learning into your classroom routine every single day without interrupting your normal teaching flow.
⭐️ I want to help YOU get started on your vocabulary teaching journey, spice up your vocabulary lessons and make YOUR classroom a word conscious environment.
I’m even more thrilled to hear all about what you do! Connect with me on Instagram to share how you teach new words in your classroom!
✈️ When I’m not working or creating you new vocab resources – I love to read, travel, hike, run, ride my Peloton and spend time at the ocean. I try to use my own passions to teach students new words they may never be exposed to otherwise!
